Boredom? You do some silly things when your bored don't you, like writing blog entries at 9.30 AM on a sunday morning, when you'd much rather be in bed and you know in the end there will only be about 4 people who are likely to read this and one of them will be my mum.
So a lot has happened in the music world since I last bothered to write anything on august 1st. Loads of 14 year olds think its cool to wear glowsticks, arctic monkeys backlash started, some guy wearing to much hairspray got in a fight with a chav in London, some woman called beth ditto stopped a bank robbery by placing her humoungous body in the doorway, which then inspired her to write the song "standing in the way of control" and milburn are still shit.
Soon as its almost christmas may aswell have some christmassy themed stuff in this entry, and might aswell through some TOP 10 lists while i'm at it aswell, so yeah not sure how many people will read this, or how much but anyway enjoy.
My Top 5 Albums Of 2006
1. Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am Thats What I'm Not

From the pounding drums of "view from the afternoon" to the poetic lyrics of "a certain romance" this was undoubtedly the best album of the year. It was so much more than just an album it was everything that went with it aswell, how the band refused to release arguably their two best songs, how it was the UK's fastest selling debut ever, mainly through word of mouth. Although i've slighty overplayed it and doesn't have as much effect on me as it used to, this album will be one that will still be talked about for years to come.
2. Bromheads Jacket - Dits From The Commuter Belt

Bromheads decision to stick with relatively unknown record company "marquis cha cha" has obvisly paid off because this album is a cracker. It runs smoothly between tracks like a swan across water. . .or something like that. The heavy bassline's and thrashing guitar songs are split up well by two almost "tear inducing" acoustic laments. The "blink and you might miss it" song "what ifs & maybe's" is definatly a high point, as is "Woolley Bridge". A song about surrey girls and "getting their wotsits waxed". Unlike some other bands at the moment Bromheads can make jokey songs and still have really good music to go with them.
3. Dirty Pretty Things - Waterloo To Anywhere

I don't really know why but i really liked this album, there was just something about it. From the simpleness of "you fucking love it" to the pounding intro riff of "last of the small town playboys" Carl described this album as him getting rid of his devils, for me this album meant 12 really good tunes.
4. The Holloways - So This Is Great Britain

I havn't really listened to this album as much as I should of because of my dad stealing it and playing it in his car. The first line "So this is great britain and welcome aboard, a sinking ship thats full of shit and someones nicked the oars" really sets the tone for an album which is heavily ingrossed in politics but manages to do it whilst still being funny and making you smile.
5. The Young Knives - Voices Of Animals And Men

Never has it been so cool to be slighty overweight, wear tweed suits, geeky classes, be named after a political establishment and insult your fans.Lucky the young knives cashed in on this then, because they've made a really good album. This album goes from racous moments "she's attracted to" to dark moments "loughbourough suicide" to moments for just bunking off work and enjoying the sunshine "weekend and bleakdays (hot summer)"

Jubb & The Dirty Sleeves - Observations Of A Twelve Year Old
New Homes - Whats that. And Can I Have A Bite
Band Feature:
The Enemy
Alright so their not really that new, but if they arnt one of the biggest bands in the UK this time next year i'll burn my CD collection. Hailing from the city of coventry from far off they may just appear to be another group of oasis wannabe's, but these boys really walk the walk, talk the talk, and then spit it back in your face. Having only started up the band in february through boredom, theyv'e already supported milburn and the view amongst many other bands, released a limited to a 1000 7" on stiff records, and in the new year are releasing their second single "its not ok" and heading off on their own tour. Watch the video and download some of the demo's i've managed to collect.
Enemy Demo's and Live Songs (CLICK HERE)
includes:
40 Days And 40 Nights
Its Not Ok
pressure
Dancing all Night
Back Like A Heart Attack
Had Enough
Radio Interview (Radio Coventry)
all the following are live tracks with reasonably good sound quality
Away From Here
Banging On The Backseat
Its Not Ok To Be A Slave
Let Me Know
Pressure
So I would write about arctic monkeys selling out about 50,000 tickets in about 3 minutes and having to make lancashire cricket stadium into 2 dates, but thats a bit boring and because its christmas i thought i'd do something different.
What they're getting for christmas. . .
Beth Ditto (the gossip)

Brandon Flowers (the killers)

Kasabian

to catch their big ego's
and yeah i got bored of this game, so moving on. . . things i predict will happen next year
. arctic monkeys will release a shocking album, containing psychobilly/nu rave, but everyone will still love it
. beth ditto will gain 3 stone
. pete doherty will appear in court approxiamately 2,784,712 times
. thom yorke will still be a cunt
yeah got bored of that too, more updates soon when im insanely bored

Little Man Tates Video Banned!!!
Little Man Tates Latest video has been banned, The video for latest single "house party at boothy's" which could of seen the band, getting a lot more coverage on MTV2. has been deemed unsuitable by MTV for showing before 9pm. The video shows loads of police officers partying, shop lifting and joy riding. Another video to also recently be banned by MTV is Bromheads Jackets video for upcoming single "Trip to the Golden Arches". LMT superfan big jon raff said "It is a joke that this video has been banned before 9 o clock. Look at all R n B videos for examples of scantily clad women and illegal activities. It really does rile me that they get away with it and LMT can't. It is a joke and a half." The same kind of message seemed to be coming from the bromheads jacket camp with the "sherrif" saying "it is no worse than lmt, eminem, milburn, green day's videos. In fact it is relatively tame and considerably less offensive than any of sunblock's videos as it is not exploiting or treating women like objects.
People are far too delicate and hipocritical these days, plan b has it nailed on with sick2def. Whilst eating my cereal in the mornings, I'm watching a city get bombed and people running round with guns, tales of violence, gang mentality, happy slappings on some poor kid at a train station, no marks in a house drunk, smoking, swearing, shagging all while ceebeebies is being shown on the other channel. Responsible scheduling?
as jarvis says
cunts are still running the world."

When switching on this EP you could be forgiven for thinking that you had just put on a CD containing Supergrass’ lost tracks. But no, this catchy Brit-pop track belongs to Southend’s Switches, who are potentially the next big indie/power pop band. Switches are a band that will immediately get your feet tapping. Message from Yuz, the title track, straight from the beginning you know it is going to be a perfect catchy song just by the drum beat which is joined by lead singer Matt’s lyrics which are enough to stick in anyone’s head. I can’t imagine why they have been ignored by radio airplay as the songs are perfect Indie/Pop songs that the radio seem to play more and more at the moment, and with the lyric “Rip out your heart and give it to me” looking set to become next years or maybe this years summer anthem it’s crazy to think how little play they’ve have had.
It’s a great debut EP from what looks likely to become a great band. Other tracks on the EP include 13 years inside which is similar to Message from Yuz with breathtaking harmonies and guitar heavy catchy riffs. No hero starts with Matt chanting before going into a masterful mix of verse and harmony between lead vocals and Ollie on guitar.
The quality tunings don’t stop at what is on the EP. Switches have more tracks than you would even dare shaking a stick at. With Lay Down the Law being snubbed for the EP it shows the quality of the guys. Snakes a Ladders a new song that is not on the EP, was tried and tested on the crowds at recent Automatic gigs looks likely to become the debut single for the band.
Overall I’d give this EP an 8/10 and look forward to any albums that maybe on the horizon.
By ryan.
Thats all for today fuck knows whats going on with the fonts, and myspace, cant find any pictures to add, il update it later and if your rading this without the savefile link to jakpots demo's check back soon their uploading

Oasis To Release Greatest Hits Album
It has been announced within the last few days, that oasis are set to release a greatest hits album, Now this is a bit strange because oasis can be quoted saying that they would never release a greatest hits album unless they were over. . . or if sony forced them in to it. But surely a band of oasis size and callibre theyr'e just going to give in like that. . .I think not, their blatently cashing in on a few bob before they release their next shit "best thing we've done since definatly maybe" album. Lets just wait and see hey, I'd like to know your opinion on the whole thing so leave a shout in the little box on the right.
New Band Feature
Klaxons
Ok klaxons arn't really that new, but i Have been requested to write about them, so here goes...Well where do I start, ok Klaxons are spearheading the new genre of music called Indie Rave, an infectious mix of indie and rave, bet you didn't see that one coming. They write songs about fantasy lands and strange stuff like that, within a few seconds of their music coming on it makes you wanna grab your glowsticks and rave it up, they have also covered "the bouncer song" a rave classic. so you've got an indie rave cover band who play guitar but are a dance act. Coming to an Indie dancefloor near you very soon or maybe their already there.

Klaxons: there to make you feel better that your clothes arn't as shit as you think
http://www.myspace.com/klaxons
Anyway wouldnt mind seeing a few more people commenting and stuff would be cool more stuff tommorow probably

And not only that also all the mainstream music news aswell. Also reviews of any gigs, albums or demo's I manage to enquire, so sit back enjoy the ride (tell all your friends) and see you again soon.
Libertine's To Reform

There are fresh rumours that the libertines will reform after pete and carl met in a pub in London. (July 18th) The ex libertines met up in a bar in Camden called dublin castle and chatted for 2 hours whilst having a few drinks. To add more fuel to the fire, pete has booked himself into rehab, which has resulted in Babyshambles having to cancel their Ibiza Rocks performance. Pete has always said he will only be able to stop when its fully his choice. So it looks like it could be a step in the right direction. Carl has also said he will only ever reform the libertines if pete gives up drugs. As this is the second time the pair have met, and this time it was not coinciedental, we will all have to keep our fingers crossed and hope they reform.
New Homes.

New Homes are a great new band from Tunbridge Wells, they play with such a confidence it makes them stand out from a lot of the other average acts around at the moment. Their New EP "What's that? And can I have a bite" already shows that they can write some great songs. With their edgy guitar riffs and catchy basslines its clear to see where they draw their influence's from. Watch out for these guys. They might just be big.

Review
20th July - bristol carling academy - the automatic / cat the dog / the switches
There is so many things I could complain about this gig; no air conditiong, security getting everyone out of the venue literially 5 minutes after the gig finished, shit view unless you were in the front two rows (which I was), no crowdsurfing, shit crowd for the support acts, and did I mention it was fucking hot.
So having met switches drummer - Jimmy G, I was already a bit dissapointed that they would not be playing "No Hero" off their new EP message from Yuz. So after getting my picture taken, went back into the crowd and waited for them to come on. Switches played a great set which involved their lead singer smashing a light and almost climbing in the crowd a few times. Pity the crowd was shit and nobody was moving around, it was kind of cool I was the only one who knew all the words. They played most of their demo's and myspace tunes. And also a new song called "Snakes and Ladder" which was a great song, and when got back home found out will be their next single out in October.

switches
To be honest I wasnt expecting much of Cat the Dog and if I'm going to be brutally honest, I would say I actualy went there not really wanting to like them, and when they came on i thought they looked like a complete bunch of tossers. But as soon as they started playing, and their drummer jumped off the top of his drumkit and started playing I had to admit I was slighty impressed. And as their set continued I ended up liking them quite a lot. I can also say their lead singer is a genuinley very nice man, and i felt sorry for him at the end, for the amount of ugly girls trying to get with him.

cat the dog
Although I wasn't really going to mention The Automatic soon as there quite big, and not much need to have them on here because they're pretty big now because of monster. I think they deserve a mention because their set was amazing, planned encores are a bit gay, but when they played Gold digger and Recover - I'm not really complaining. I also got the drummer (Iwans) towel at the end, so that rounded off the evening nicely, If you get the chance to see any of these bands, definatly go and check them out. And watch out for the switches! Specialy if they decide to "Lay down The Law".
